How to Get Involved in Advocacy

Advocacy works best when pharmacists and pharmacy teams across New York speak with one unified, powerful voice. Whether you have five minutes or want a deeper leadership role, there are many ways to help strengthen and protect our profession. Your involvement directly shapes patient access, reimbursement reform, and the future of New York pharmacy.

1. Take Action Through VoterVoice

Our VoterVoice platform makes it easy to contact your legislators in minutes.

  • Send pre-written messages directly to your elected officials
  • Stay informed about urgent advocacy alerts
  • Boost impact by sharing campaigns with colleagues and patients

Every message counts — and legislators track them. Add your voice and help advance critical bills like PAPA, Medicaid COLA, and NYSHIP reimbursement reforms.

2. Join a PSSNY Legislative Committee

Our Legislative Committee brings together pharmacists from all practice settings to help shape PSSNY’s policy priorities and advocacy strategy.  Committee members:

  • Review legislation impacting pharmacy
  • Provide feedback on policy proposals
  • Help guide advocacy campaigns
  • Support testimony, meetings, and grassroots mobilization

If you want a more hands-on role in policy work, this is the place to begin.

3. Support the FixRx Committee

The PR/FixRx Committee leads PSSNY’s efforts to educate the public, policymakers, and the media about the challenges facing pharmacy and the urgent need for PBM reform. By joining this committee, you can:

  • Contribute to statewide messaging and public-facing campaigns
  • Help develop FixRx content, graphics, and educational materials
  • Share real-world pharmacy stories that strengthen our advocacy
  • Support media outreach and communications to legislators
  • Coordinate with partners to amplify the message

FixRx is one of PSSNY’s most powerful tools for exposing unfair PBM practices and highlighting the impact on patients and pharmacies. Your voice and experience help drive the narrative that leads to real legislative change.

4. Participate in PSSNY Advocacy Days

Our state and student advocacy days bring pharmacists, technicians, and students to Albany to meet directly with legislators.  When you participate, you:

  • Tell your story to lawmakers face-to-face
  • Advocate for legislation that protects patient access
  • Represent your region and your profession
  • Help educate elected officials about pharmacy’s value

These events are some of the most effective tools we have to advance our legislative goals. No prior experience is needed — we provide training, talking points, and support.

5. Share Your Pharmacy’s Story

Legislators respond to real-world examples.  You can help by sharing:

  • How PBM practices impact your patients
  • How reimbursement cuts threaten your ability to provide care
  • Pharmacy closures or service reductions in your community
  • Success stories about improved patient outcomes

Your story can become the evidence legislators rely on during negotiations or hearings.

6. Stay Connected and Spread the Word

  • Follow PSSNY on social media
  • Share advocacy alerts with colleagues
  • Encourage team members and students to participate
  • Attend monthly membership meetings and legislative updates

Advocacy is stronger when our entire profession is informed and engaged.
