Advocacy Events

Lobby Day Information

Each year, PSSNY hosts two lobby days. One day is for Independent Pharmacists and Pharmacy Owners to lobby for our current legislative agenda. The other Pharmacy Lobby Day is designed to educate students of pharmacy on the legislative process and continue the lobbying efforts for our current legislative agenda with all NYS pharmacists.

Lobby days provide a platform for individuals and organizations to directly advocate for their interests with policymakers, fostering a more democratic and informed legislative process. They allow for face-to-face interactions, enabling advocates to share their stories and the impact of specific issues on individuals and communities. This direct engagement helps lawmakers understand the real-world implications of their decisions and makes it easier for them to connect with the constituents they represent.

Here's a more detailed look at the benefits:

1. Increased Access and Influence: Lobby days offer a unique opportunity to gain access to legislators and directly influence their decisions. By meeting with lawmakers and sharing their perspectives, advocates can ensure that their voices are heard and that specific issues are brought to the forefront of the legislative agenda.

2. Enhanced Education and Understanding: Lobby days provide a valuable educational platform for lawmakers, helping them understand the complex realities of various issues and the needs of their constituents. This can lead to more informed and effective legislation that better addresses the needs of the community.

3. Strengthened Relationships: Lobby days can foster stronger relationships between advocates and lawmakers, leading to more effective collaboration and advocacy in the future. By building personal connections, advocates can establish a more solid foundation for ongoing advocacy efforts and potentially gain better access to future information and opportunities.

4. Mobilization and Support: Lobby days can serve as a catalyst for broader mobilization and support for specific issues. By bringing together a diverse group of individuals and organizations, these events can generate momentum and demonstrate the broad-based support for specific policy changes.

5. Increased Visibility and Awareness: Lobby days can raise awareness about specific issues and organizations, increasing their visibility and influence in the legislative sphere. By engaging with policymakers and the media, these events can generate a significant amount of attention for specific causes, leading to a broader public understanding of the issues at stake.

In conclusion, lobby days are a powerful tool for promoting democracy and ensuring that the voices of individuals and organizations are heard in the legislative process. By providing a direct platform for advocacy and engagement, these events play a crucial role in shaping policy and ensuring that it reflects the needs and interests of the community.
