Pharmacist as Advocate |
As New York pharmacists, we go out of our way to ensure patients across the Empire State are healthy. We don’t do it because it’s our job – it’s because we care. The better you feel, the better we feel.PSSNY sat down with patients from across New York who have been positively impacted by their neighborhood pharmacist and advocate.
Hugh Barnett has been a patient of PSSNY pharmacist Steve Kaufman for 24 years. As Hugh’s community pharmacist, Steve has been by his side every step of the way identifying programs which ultimately saved Hugh thousands of dollars on his prescriptions. By caring for his patient, Steve has allowed Hugh to stay compliant with medications, without breaking the bank.
Merry Van Denburgh moved from Hudson to Plattsburgh, New York to be closer to family – particularly her father Henry, as he began to age and needed her support. Merry and Henry were patients and frequent patrons of Keeseville Pharmacy, owned and operated by registered pharmacist Dan Bosley. Reaching the age of 109, Henry could no longer leave the house and needed at-home care. Dan answered that call and began providing home visits for routine vaccinations and COVID testing. A bond was formed, and even after his death Henry still holds a special place in Dan’s heart. Watch Merry and Henry’s story here .
Embedded in an urban setting in Albany New York’s South End for almost 90 years, Lincoln Pharmacy still stands as a trusted community pillar. Where several retail pharmacies have closed their doors over the last several years, Lincoln Pharmacy is committed to serving and supporting its patients. Lincoln Pharmacy’s owner, Zarina Jalal, PharmD, is known for going out of her way to advocate for her patients. Such was the case when John Esmond and his wife Gail were suddenly met with exorbitant drug costs for a prescription that was otherwise affordable. Zarina immediately jumped into action to find a solution. Watch John’s story here .
Pharmacists are compassionate. Pharmacists are dedicated. Pharmacists care for us. Corporate greed and Fortune 500 competition in the pharmaceutical marketplace is threatening to destroy the community pharmacists who care so deeply for our individual needs. Pharmacy closures have been threatened and are already happening across New York, from pressure on independently-owned pharmacies and neighborhood shops, to cost-cutting moves at the chain stores in our cities and towns. New York pharmacists will never stop advocating for what is right and best for our patients, but we need your help. Think like a pharmacist. Act like a pharmacist. Join our fight to advocate for what is right and save your pharmacy care. Tell your local legislator to do the same today!
