To unite and empower the profession of pharmacy through advocacy, education, networking, and interprofessional collaboration.
A Message From PSSNY President, Tom D'Angelo, RPh:
Hello PSSNY members and supporters,
I became President at the end of June and will serve in this role until the 2021 PSSNY Annual Convention in Saratoga Springs. I am owner of two independent operations in Long Island and a PSSNY member for many years. Little did I know when I chose the theme “Charting the Course” for my term as President, that the pharmacy profession would be in uncharted waters. For an organization steeped in tradition, PSSNY was able to take its Annual Convention virtual and affiliates were able to stay connected to their members with virtual CE webinars hosted by PSSNY. Thank you for supporting our virtual events as we wait for a time when we can safely gather in person. I look forward to celebrating all our accomplishments and having lunch with PSSNY’s past presidents.
From July 2019 to June 2020, I was President-elect and therefore Legislative Committee Chair. PSSNY enters this new year with seven legislative priorities. The fight to license and regulate PBM middlemen continues as well as the fight for increased scope of practice. Immunization expansion, POC/CLIA-waive testing, comprehensive medication management, AMMO reform, and prohibiting spread pricing are other legislative priorities. PSSNY recently had a FixRx Emergency Fundraising webinar which has raised more than $117,000 for public relations and awareness of PBM abuses and the need for a NYS law to stop their practices. Thank you to our members and supporters for donating to our public relations effort. The next effort is to convert the non-members who contributed to FixRx into members of PSSNY. The more members of PSSNY the stronger our legislative and advocacy voice and the more we can do for the pharmacy profession in New York state.
PSSNY has a 24-member Board of Directors comprised of Region Representatives from each affiliate plus the executive board officers. In June 2020, three new region reps joined the board. I am happy to serve in a leadership role alongside all these committed volunteers. PSSNY has 12 active committees and each committee is diverse in its make-up so that all areas of the state are represented in our planning and problem-solving functions.
I am honored to be PSSNY’s president and Charting the Course for 2020-21. Please spread the word about the Pharmacists Society statewide to new practitioners, pharmacists across all practice settings, pharmacy owners, technicians, faculty and students. We are stronger together.
