How to Survive a DEA Inspection Series: Pharmacy Accountability of Controlled Substances

Target Audience: Pharmacists in All Practice Settings

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Define the role of DEA Diversion personnel who enforce pharmaceutical federal laws under the Controlled Substances Act and DEA regulations;
  • Identify the methods used by the DEA to account for controlled substance theft or diversion in the pharmacy;
  • Describe each element of a DEA Computation Chart used to establish shortages and overages of controlled substances;
  • Identify the required records used in the DEA accountability investigation and the need to have such required readily retrievable from other records.
