THIS IS A LIVE WEBINAR FOR 1 CE HOUR, OPEN TO PSSNY MEMBERS ONLY
Goals and Objectives:
Preservatives are included in CSP and non-sterile compounded products to protect the medicine from adventitious contamination during use. This assumes a preservative system that is active in the formulated product. It is expected that the pharmacy will have test data showing the adequacy of this preservation – the test to determine this adequacy is presented in USP <51> “Antimicrobial Effectiveness Testing.” A new revision of the Antimicrobial Effectiveness Test (AET - USP chapter 51) is now in the USP for 2015. As a draft, the proposed revision generated significant discussion.
This webinar will review the new chapter and provide guidance on how to meet regulatory expectations for preservation efficacy.
At the completion of this presentation the learner will:
· Understand the basis and evolution of antimicrobial testing as described in USP <51> and required in USP <797>
· Be able to describe and implement changes to pharmacy practice in regards to release of preserved product.
· Be able to review laboratory reports for completeness and compliance to USP <51>.
Length of Program: 60 minutes
